Falling Pregnant Is Not Always Easy…

Having a baby is a precious gift. Sadly, for many couples it is an extremely distressing experience as they struggle to conceive amd/or maintain a pregnancy. The causes of infertility and many and varied, and affect both men and women. Sometimes the man’s sperm count is too low; sometimes there is a hormonal imbalance in one or both partners; sometimes lifestyle factors such as nutritonal deficiencies, stress, obesity or toxicity are at fault; and sometimes there may be no obvious reason at all.

Are You Too Stressed To Conceive?

The impact stress has on infertility cannot be underestimated, both as a cause and as a consequence of not conceiving, in both partners. Stress impacts the reproductive system on all levels. In fact, stress actually inhibits the reproductive system, so if you are stressed, this may affect your ability to have a baby. Have you ever noticed that it is often when a couple stops trying to conceive, and they start to relax, that they fall pregnant?

Be Mindful of Toxicity Levels…

When the body is overloaded with toxins, it can be very difficult to conceive. An overloaded system due to poor dietary and lifestyle habits can greatly inhibit the liver, an important detoxifying organ in our bodies. The liver plays a role in producing your reproductive hormones, so a comprehensive detoxification program is an important step in improving liver clearance of hormones and toxins that can impair fertility.

Are Your Hormones Out of Balance?

Hormonal imbalances can be a significant factor in infertility. Basically, without the right balance of hormones, it is extremely difficult to conceive. Fortunately, there are some great combinations of herbs and nutrients which have been found to, increase sperm count and quality, improve female egg quality, assist ovulation,  balance testosterone/estrogen levels and improve fertility in both men and women. Your Practitioner will prescribe the best formula for you and your current health status.

Healthy Parents Make Healthy Babies….

In order for you to give your baby the best start in life, it is essential that both the mother and father are in the best possible health. Ensure you both have optimal stores of vitamins and minerals that will support energy production, healthy metabolism, healthy fetal development, and minimal toxin overload. The idea is to create to best possible quality of both egg and sperm, in order to strengthen the possibility of conceiving, the success of the pregnancy and the health of the baby.

Oriental Medicine for Improving Fertility…

You may have heard or read about acupuncture and chinese herbs in assisting fertility and increasing IVF success rates?

Acupuncture, often in conjunction with herbal medicine, has demonstrated potential for treating some types of infertility, including sterility resulting from recurrent miscarraige, elevated follicle stimulating hormone, hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism. In female health disorders such as PCOS with menstrual irregularities, acupuncture was found to improve ovulation rate by 35%. (Acta Obstet Gynecol Scand 2000;79:180-8)

In a systematic review published in the British Medical Journal, Eric Manheimer and colleagues found preliminary evidence that acupuncture can boost IVF chances by up to 65%. (http://www.bmj.com/content/336/7643/545.full)

Fertility and Sterility review compiled by Ernest Hung Yu Ng, MD, and colleagues also found that acupuncture increased pregnancy rate with IVF treatment, particularly when acupuncture treatment occurred the same day as embryo transfer. This report also found that acupuncture helped many women relieve pain during egg retrieval.

Beginning acupuncture treatment a few months before IVF, insemination or donor-egg transfer can help increase the effects. In addition, continuing acupuncture throughout the first trimester may help prevent miscarraige.

If you are experiencing difficulties with fertility, we can help.
